Retipping & Stone Tightening
Re-tipping the prongs with soft solder is how most goldsmiths usually fix worn out or broken prongs or tighten loose stones. Soft solder by definition is soft and would most likely not hold up to regular wear for long. At Khoury Bros., we completely replace the prongs and use the laser to cold weld them. Incidentally, using the laser – which does not generate any heat, instead of the traditional torch which involves a high degree of heat – allows us to work on many jewelry items that are set with gemstones that cannot take the heat, such as emeralds, opals, amethysts, and even most sapphires, rubies and others.
